Modernist Wedding Inspiration at the Marker Hotel
I love the internal architecture of Dublin’s Marker Hotel. For what’s essentially quite a minimalist design, the warmth created by how the light bounces around its surfaces, makes it feel full of detail. And it was the honeycomb-esque structure of the ground floor ceiling, as well as that honey-toned light, which seems ever-present, that inspired the theme for this shoot, titled Oh Honey, in the 2015 BASH Annual.
Shot by the master of light and shade, All Higgins, the story begins with a floral mandala, created by Claire Ryan (formerly The Informal Florist), as our ceremony backdrop, instantly breathing natural life into this urban space. Thereafter, the styling balances the Marker’s minimalism, with touches of the ornate, in handcut Irish crystal and gilded tableware, alongside more luscious blooms spilling from table urns. We created an escort station using little potted bulbs, which would also serve as favours and the gold foiled stationery, again, brings those touches of honey-soaked warmth to fresh white paper on stark marble.
